Valuation Notices
For the majority of the State of Minnesota as well as the United States, there has been inflation in the real estate market, with most properties selling at a much higher price than previously. This also holds true for real estate sales in Pennington County.
We are increasing values on the vast majority of properties at a higher percentage than most years.
It is essential that we are proactive and adjust our values at the local level. If we do not meet certain requirements from the Minnesota Department of Revenue, they will step in and adjust our values.
After you receive your valuation notice, we advise you to look at our sales lists on the Pennington County, Minnesota website. Under the “Departments” tab, click on “Assessor’s Office”. Then under the “Information and Resources” heading, click on “Recent Sales”. The 2022 Assessment is based on sales that occurred from October 1, 2020 to September 20, 2021, then are adjusted for inflation to January 2, 2022 according to Minnesota Department of Revenue requirements.
If you have any questions or concerns after reviewing your valuation notice, it is important that you contact our office (218-683-7029) as soon as possible. The Local Board Appeal of Equalization and Local Open Book Meetings begin April 19 and go through May 10, 2022. Information on appealing your value is on the back of your valuation notice and can also be found on the Assessor’s Department page on the Pennington County website.
The Pennington County Board of Appeal and equalization will be held June 13, 2022. For the jurisdictions that have Local Board of Appeal and Equalization, you have to appeal to the local board first before appealing to the County Board. An appointment to get on the County Board’s agenda is also required to appeal to the County Board.
